So searching for the best options for Vermin Racing, which means a bit of testing out various simulations and considering some other options.
I tested Kart Racing Pro to see if the most recent version had made any improvements. Although it has been improved upon, I still consider £24 for a license, for a simulator that only simulates one type of racing, is still expensive, especially considering the network code is apparently quite laggy. It would have been nice to have a Karting sim and the physics are excellent, but I have had to rule it out.
Another impressive simulation I discovered is Simraceway, which would be ideal to be part of, if it were not for a couple of issues. Firstly it seems to be more focused on individual racing careers, rather than team sports, the lack of support for setting up teams is disappointing and the lack of livery/skin customization, means that every racer drives identical looking cars with identical helmets. The other issue is that it has a "Pay As You Enter" structure to some of the races, some races are free but others you have to pay an entry fee. This wouldn't be a problem if I could find some sponsorship for the team and it's not like the race's are expensive, but even if I found someone willing to support the team, the lack of skin customization would not allow them to advertize on the car skins. So unfortunately it is a promising sim that I also have to rule out.
iRacing is out of the question due to how costly that would become. Rfactor and GTR2 never feel right when racing online when compared to other sims, don't get me wrong they are both excellent games. Same kind of feeling for Dolphinity Racer, which impresses me graphically and some of the cars feel good but it always feels unfinished (it is an open beta game I suppose).
That leaves very few options left. Project C.A.R.S. looks good but I have no idea on what kind of physics or structure it would work on, plus the team behind it have a slightly more arcade background. Live For Speed, which I have never been impressed with, although it looks like it has improved over the years or back to Netkar and maybe Assetto Corsa in the future.
I am still looking around for simulators, I think I need to find drivers who race in these games. Difficult times.
