Here at Vermin, we help support and endeavor to improve the skill and racecraft of all of our drivers. Sim racing is one thing, but one of our drivers, Jack Smith, has recently taken his practice to the next level; driving the real thing at Stowe Circuit, located in the middle of Silverstone International. As a sim racer who had never experienced the raw insanity of a real racing car, Jack was quite rightly excited about the opportunity. The closest he’d ever driven was a go kart, making this a gigantic step for a newcomer to take; yet he still made his mark. Thanks to the help of the team at Vermin and the valuable experience gained from his sim racing career, Jack was able to pick up the top spot in the experience with a time of 1:03.086; only 5.9 seconds off of Ben Collins, A professional racing driver. Jack was thrilled after the event. It was an experience ticked off of his bucket list. Something tells us it won’t be his last time in a single seater! “I’ve never experienced anything like it. The clutch was alien to me, so to was the gearbox. I did stall twice before even moving, which was expected, but it was just insane. The sense of speed was also immense. After three laps I was lost in this racing zone. It was 100x better than sim racing; being able to look into the corners, feeling each tyre, being pushed into your seat. The whole thing was incredible.” Jack is not our only driver who has dipped his toe into the big pond of real life racing, Slava has an up coming test session in a Formula Renault 2.0 and has previously done quite a few different circuits and track day experiences. Myself (Richard) has done a few Formula Ford track days and a long history of go-karting outdoors and Chris has also had a racing career outisde of Sim racing with some impressive results.
